Subscribe to This

In this episode, Ric takes a look at the new financial model we are having to contend with. The notion we are subscribed to everything. It would appear that gone are the days when you wanted something, you merely accessed it and then paid for it. Not any more.

Now, you can subscribe to just about anything. Nothing is out of reach and nothing is off limits. Even your dog can have a subscription to a monthly delivery of stuff. Think of it as being nickle and dimed to death.

Don't Cross The Streams

We get it, you became a cord cutter and now you are finding yourself back in the same boat you were in before you cut the cable. The corporate entertainment providers are finding a way to get you back into that same old boat. And it's getting a little more interesting.

As the fight rages on, you are now looking at what appears to be a couple of very broad lines being drawn. There is the old subscription standards and there are some free options. There is one very large issue looming over all of this though, it's not unlike trying to figure out which "restaurant" has the less mediocre fish sandwich.

The absurdity of it all points at one fairly clear answer. Just take a look at what the Millennials are doing.

An Advertising Conundrum

Advertising used to be so simple. You get to tell an audience of a platform about your business or whatever you want (within reason) in exchange for a few bucks. Now it got weird. Terrestrial radio kind of screwed that up, frankly.

They stiffed advertisers simply by chasing the dollar and sold out those dedicated to advertising their wares only to be left holding the bag. Now the internet is sucking up that revenue in all sorts of strange ways. One involves the useless short term gain of social media advertising. In this episode, Ric takes a critical look at what is going on out there in one form of this business and how advertisers are still getting screwed.
