Airing Out The Cat & John D'Amato

When early spring rolls around to Memphis, it's time to let the cat out. In this particular sense, it means the two cats that live with Ric like to get outside. But there is a funny illusion to this practice.

Also a conversation and new music with a long time friend of the show, John D'Amato. He joins the conversation via the miracle of the internet to debut some new music as well as some interesting tales from the studio.

NEXT WEEK: Eddie Cotton

John D'Amato & The Delta Project

This is the 250th episode From Radioland. A milestone, perhaps. In essence, 250 consecutive weeks of this show have happened with only a couple missing their Sunday deadlines due to some technical issue. Not a bad run, so far.

After nearly 5 years of this show (and me not paying attention to the current episode number), we have come to a fitting show for this monument.

We have known John for a long time and he has been with us since the beginning. He called in from a recording session where he is working up his latest collection of songs. You'll get an update. After that, there is a great time with another friend of Radio Memphis. The Delta Project. Lot's of laughs and lots of music in this episode. Plus, tales from the road.

Note: Here's to another 250 (or so) episodes From Radioland. My personal thanks to Mark Caldwell who makes these things happen for us and to all the other people who have helped get this show where it is right this moment.

NEXT WEEK: Carla Thomas, Willie Hall & Vanese Thomas - Dropping Bombs

Hangin' with Blues Musicians

The 35th Blues Music Awards happened. Jeff and I managed to weasel ourselves into this thing and quickly found out the best place to hang out was outside the event where all the musicians were (when they weren't playing). Once we figured that out, we wound up talking to a good number of these folks. One of my favorite artists is Super Chikan. Guess what? We talked to him. More accurately, he talked to us and gave us a great education on southern culture. A truly fascinating interview.

We also spent some time with Matt Isbell and his lovely wife Lisa, Preston McEwen, J.L. Fulks and John D'Amato and they are all on this episode.

This show was so much fun to do and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much fun as we had being there and doing this show.

Our thanks to Lucy Hammond for getting us into the venue.

The Beale Street Blues

Jeff and I went down to Beale Street a couple of weeks ago and got into some real blues from Eric Hughes and John D'Amato. Along the way we encountered some real drunks. Yep, I recorded that, too. This is the first of our remote produced shows. This was so much fun. At one point in the night I thought I was recording a conversation with Eric Hughes... not so much. I blame Wet Willie's for that. Nevertheless, we had a blast and I did manage to record Eric playing a Robert Johnson song and there is a tune from John D'Amato and his band.

I know... Willie Hall... I know...

A note about next week: There is reference in here about the Blues Music Awards. We went there and took the recorder and had a great conversation with some other artists. You won't want to miss that one.
