Cabin Fever with Rew Starr

If there is one thing to be said about the Covid 19 pandemic is that most people seem to have been coping with cabin fever fairly well. You could argue that artists in general would be the ones who would be having the most difficult time with the notion of being contained in their homes all this time. In this episode, Ric sits down with New York musician and artist Rew Starr and they talk about the impact a lock down can have on an artist.

The good news is that Rew discovered something new about her self and has made her time inside much more bearable by being constructive. Also in this episode, you'll hear her band The Rewlettes and their version of the classic To Sir With Love and the story behind the recording and how their video was made.

NEXT WEEK: Jeff Krauss with Fan Room Live

It is Not A Damned Hobby, Sir

Through the past past 5 years, I have endured a lot. Of course, running your own business will do that to you. One of the more annoying things that have been endured is the little quip or unsolicited comment from some random hump who will make the following statement, "So, how is that little hobby of yours doing? Still doing radio?"

Inside my head, I scream, "Fuck you!"

Out of my mouth is something much more polite and civil.

Come to find out, hearing these little things is nothing new or unique. It comes from people who refuse to think you are doing anything right. Especially when it comes to stepping out on your own. Such as it is, this is the topic this week. That and something about a tuna sandwich.

Plus music from Thomas Jackson Orchestra.

Rodger, I Am Your Father

Actually, Brian McMurry is... In this episode, my former next door neighbor and graphic artist and fellow chess player sat down with me to discuss where the concept of Rodger came from. He's the guy responsible for the Radio Memphis logo.

Meet Rodger.
Obviously, the Radio Memphis logo is a little more than the above, with the addition of some groovy font and some additional artistic splash. However, this guy here is the basis behind the face for the radio station. Take a listen to this podcast to learn more. In it, there are references to a couple of other pieces, they are below the player.

This hangs on a wall in my living room, much to the surprise of my wife and all those who feast their eyes on this.
The Abduction of Ganymede - Rembrandt
And this is the Hieronymus Bosch, that Brian makes reference to.

Hope you enjoy and as always, stay tuned.
