How To Lose an Election with Kieran Hilbert & Friends

I know the title sounds suspect. The two subjects are not related. But something happened to me this morning which caught me a little off guard and gave rise to the 2 ways you can lose my vote if you were to run for some sort of political office.

Also, Kieran Hilbert & Friends are from Germany. They came to Memphis to play. They also came to Radio Memphis to talk and play. It was a big time when Dianna joined me in the studio for this international incident.

An Evening with Howard Grimes

This episode is a little over 2 hours. Frankly, it is pretty much at the upper limit I think most shows like this should be. Having said that, the conversation at hand here is one of the more remarkable conversations I had been involved with.

Dianna Fryer joined the conversation and she was able to get Howard to tell some really beautiful stories. You are also going to hear a bunch fantastic stories about creating "that Memphis sound". Some very funny moments and some truly touching times are all reflected here in this episode.

My thanks to Mark Caldwell from The Memphis Blues Society for making this moment happen.

From The Hill Country with Trenton Ayers & Cedric Burnside

In case you missed this remarkable conversation and performance from these two, here it is. We didn't edit much out of this one simply because there is just too much good stuff here to listen. In here, you are going to hear some exclusive music that has never been released to the public and is still not available (as of this publication).

This was a great time and Jeff Janovetz and I had more fun then the law should allow.

Lightnin' Malcolm & A Hill Country Production

Lightnin' Malcolm
It is always a great time when this guy drops into the studio at Radio Memphis. Lightnin' Malcolm was originally scheduled to back up the newly Grammy nominated R. L. Boyce. R. L. had to miss the show that night due to a flat tire and a dead phone. But, Malcolm was in the studio and a fantastic show happened despite the blues Mr. Boyce was experiencing that night.

Lightnin' Malcolm told some great stories from the road, what it is like out there and the many people he has played with. He was on with us for three hours that night, this show represents about a third of that night and is great fun. Wait until he tells the story about his work with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.

Note: In his studio performances during this show, he sings, plays guitar and drums at the same time.

Frank Roszak: Promoter Of The Stars

There is a little corner of show business few people outside of the industry rarely consider. That would be promotions. Just how does an artist go from making a record to putting that music in front of a lot of people? Promotions.

There is a lot of work that goes into promoting an artist or act. One of the guys who is very good at it is going to tell you how it's done... at least from his perspective.

Frank Roszak was in town for the Blues Music Awards and came by Radio Memphis for a little chat about the radio business, the music business and the world of promotions.

This was recorded from an appearance on Radio Memphis in the Morning. Joining me in this episode is Jeff Janovetz and making her first appearance From Radioland is the morning show co-host, Kate Lucas.

Plus, music from Malted Milk and Toni Green from their studio record Milk & Green.

Cash McCall & Butch Mudbone Part 2

In our continued discussion with these two bluesmen, Jeff Janovetz & I learn about the long lasting problems that come from getting screwed by your record label. When you are the age of these guys, on a fixed income and you are still playing to eat, the hard truths come up when something as basic as having a roof over your head becomes an issue.

Pay attention to this episode. There is a way you can help when you hear the story. It's spelled out during this episode. If you have any questions, drop a comment here and I'll steer you in the right direction.

Plus in this episode, another tune from these two great guys.
