The Radioland 400

For over seven years, Ric has sat down and delivered 400 episodes of From Radioland. In this, the 400th episode, Ric takes a look back at how this show has evolved over those years. He also spends a bit of time explaining the importance of a legitimate human connection that can be made through a format such as this or through live radio.

Although the internet has been the great leveler of playing fields, the one true notion that remains the same and is just as important than ever is the connection that can be made when one simply listens to another.

In The Absence of Reason

After spending some time in the social media echo chamber bouncing about through the news cycle, it occurred to me there is something missing from all of this, reason. There is a lot of tough talk out there from people who are propped up by their hidden identities. These people blindly write their feelings with no real purpose. Surely, they aren't trying to convince someone of their superior point of view.

But what happens when these same "flame throwers" get out in public. Are they the same person? No.

Plus a conversation and performance with Sorianna Wood.

An Evening with Howard Grimes

This episode is a little over 2 hours. Frankly, it is pretty much at the upper limit I think most shows like this should be. Having said that, the conversation at hand here is one of the more remarkable conversations I had been involved with.

Dianna Fryer joined the conversation and she was able to get Howard to tell some really beautiful stories. You are also going to hear a bunch fantastic stories about creating "that Memphis sound". Some very funny moments and some truly touching times are all reflected here in this episode.

My thanks to Mark Caldwell from The Memphis Blues Society for making this moment happen.

Lightnin' Malcolm & A Hill Country Production

Lightnin' Malcolm
It is always a great time when this guy drops into the studio at Radio Memphis. Lightnin' Malcolm was originally scheduled to back up the newly Grammy nominated R. L. Boyce. R. L. had to miss the show that night due to a flat tire and a dead phone. But, Malcolm was in the studio and a fantastic show happened despite the blues Mr. Boyce was experiencing that night.

Lightnin' Malcolm told some great stories from the road, what it is like out there and the many people he has played with. He was on with us for three hours that night, this show represents about a third of that night and is great fun. Wait until he tells the story about his work with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.

Note: In his studio performances during this show, he sings, plays guitar and drums at the same time.

The Facebook Show

Back on 20 July, 2017, I went live on Facebook and recorded part of this episode. What did we discuss? Facebook.

The question is this: Is Facebook as big as we are led to believe? Does it have the power to manipulate people as much as you would think? And, just how much original content exists on that social media platform?

In short, no and not much.

Plus music from Lightnin' Malcolm

Lucky Buddha: The Video

Okay, there I was thinking about saving the beer for another episode of the show. Then my show schedule kinda got booked and it would be a while before I could get to opening the thing up during a future episode of the show.

Thanks to the miracle that is the internet and this whole video concept, I got to thinking about why not just video the whole thing and make it an addendum to the original show.

If you haven't heard Episode 64: Lucky Buddha, stop now and go listen to that first, THEN watch this video.

Here's the thing, I am no sommelier and there is no such thing for beer drinkers. People who judge beer are beer drinkers. Nothing fancy. About as fancy as they get is Beer Critic. Nevertheless, if it comes to be a critic, then we all are critics and this video is fine example of that uneducated skill. Frankly, it doesn't matter what I think of a beer. If you like it, drink it.

Here is my take on the Lucky Buddha Enlightened Beer.

From The Written to The Spoken

You might want to read my last post here if you haven't before reading further.

Here's the thing. I now have a podcast which will now take the place (in a weird sort of way) of the written word. This page will continue to be updated as the podcasts get into the schedule. The good thing here is that there are a scheduled series of podcasts that will be posted approximately once a week.

You see, speaking is much more natural to me than sitting in front of a keyboard bashing out word after word that I merely hear in my head. So the decision was made to utilize the tools I have to make something a little more amusing for you to listen to and/or waste your time.

The podcast has been accepted at iTunes and is now available to download by clicking HERE. You should already have an account with iTunes. If not, go ahead and get one, it's free and easy. While you there, please subscribe to the thing and you can expect a new episode about once a week.

For the uninitiated, get your free podcast app from your app store and you will be able to subscribe to the thing and as they are updated, you will get the episode downloaded to your device for you to consume at your leisure. On your mobile device (phone or tablet), open a browser and go to http://ricchetter.podbean.com/mobile/ tap the quick launch icon and the above picture will show up as a bookmark that will rest right on your screen amongst your other apps. For you desktop and laptop users, just head on over to ricchetter.podbean.com

You can follow the feed from that site.

For those who are still paying attention to this blog site, guess what? I'll be posting the episodes right here.

In fact, here is the first one.
