Paint A Rosy Picture

In this day of altered states of media, corporate reigns supreme. When it comes to getting information of either an entertainment nature or educational bent, there are a million sources. One of which Ric is involved in revolves around the print media.

As odd as it may sound to have a radio guy write a column, he does (so far, as of this publication) for a nationally owned magazine with a syndication in Memphis. Apparently, as Ric explains in this episode, umbrage has been taken on the corporate level because of something Ric wrote.

Censor Me

There has been quite a bit of talk in the news here lately about Hong Kong. What you may not have heard is what happens when a company will censor someone over unpopular speech. In this episode, Ric takes a look at the NBA and the mess LeBron James found himself in regarding an unpopular statement.

The upsetting thing about this is that it revolved around a corporate influence on someone else. Also in this episode, Ric says a few things that if said in China would probably put him in some sort of camp. He'll explain what difference is between censorship and freedom of speech. Plus, his unpopular thought of the week and more.

Next Week: Navigating network television programming.

John Nemeth

John has been a long time friend of Radio Memphis. He stopped in with a guitarist named Aubrey and brought a drummer named Willie. It was fun night and there were quite a few stories told including the whole thing about John getting censored over a pickle.

Also, ever been to a grocery store after the snow has come and gone and they haven't restocked everything? I did and it tells an interesting story.

Censor This

There is a funny relationship between the media and the public. Neither one trusts the other. Even though they consult with each other constantly. What is amusing about that lies in the idea of the dissemination of information and how that information is conveyed. Of course, you do realize you never get the whole story on any subject you read or hear about. Why is this? Censorship.

I should know, I am in the media business. Censorship is a very real thing and it happens on some rather amusing levels. Well, "amusing" to some and downright terrifying for others. Check it out.

Keep Your Hands Off My Internet

There has been a lot of talk lately about the federal government wanting to get involved in the regulation (of some sort) of the internet. Net neutrality is a discussion you may have heard about. I wanted to sit down and take a look at what net neutrality is about and what it could mean if congress found a way to put the internet under the control of the FCC.

What does this mean for you? Probably not good at all. The fact of the matter is simply that where there is substantial money involved, government regulation is never far behind. It is funny that the only ones in favor of government regulation of the internet are the big corporations. What good what it do you the average consumer? I'll tell you.

I'll also tell you just what the FCC was all about and how it could tie in to what the internet is or what some members of congress want it to be.
