Don't Cross The Streams

We get it, you became a cord cutter and now you are finding yourself back in the same boat you were in before you cut the cable. The corporate entertainment providers are finding a way to get you back into that same old boat. And it's getting a little more interesting.

As the fight rages on, you are now looking at what appears to be a couple of very broad lines being drawn. There is the old subscription standards and there are some free options. There is one very large issue looming over all of this though, it's not unlike trying to figure out which "restaurant" has the less mediocre fish sandwich.

The absurdity of it all points at one fairly clear answer. Just take a look at what the Millennials are doing.

Plato, The Romans and Josh McLean

Government control is a broad subject. It is all over the news. Being a student of history, I can't help but draw certain parallels from the past to the present. Seems heavy, but it really isn't especially when you start talking about Net Neutrality and CBD oil.

Plus, long time friend of Radio Memphis Josh McLean joins the show for a whirlwind discussion of all sorts of topics. If that wasn't enough, a performance from his band Heels also happens here with a couple of tunes that was recorded in Studio C at Pirate Radio Studios.

There is a name you know. Especially if you have spent any time in Memphis and happened to have turned on an FM radio. Bill has been on the air in this city for 30 years. He stopped by the Radio Memphis studios for a little talk.

Bill has a really cool thing in the works involving his love of Memphis and all the cool things in this city you may not have heard of.  We also got to talking about how corporate driven radio did the things they did.

Keep Your Hands Off My Internet

There has been a lot of talk lately about the federal government wanting to get involved in the regulation (of some sort) of the internet. Net neutrality is a discussion you may have heard about. I wanted to sit down and take a look at what net neutrality is about and what it could mean if congress found a way to put the internet under the control of the FCC.

What does this mean for you? Probably not good at all. The fact of the matter is simply that where there is substantial money involved, government regulation is never far behind. It is funny that the only ones in favor of government regulation of the internet are the big corporations. What good what it do you the average consumer? I'll tell you.

I'll also tell you just what the FCC was all about and how it could tie in to what the internet is or what some members of congress want it to be.

The Golden Age of The Internet

We are living in a fine time of the internet. It is truly the last great final frontier. As a result, it is lawless, free (to a point), full of boobies, idiots and good stuff, too. It is the perfect setting for the fight of a lifetime. Now the FCC wants to come in and regulate it on the behalf of some wealthy internet provider corporations. If that were to happen, we would all suffer. But since the US government has decided to be the police force for every other nation in the world plus the internet, this would cause some big problems.

That is what I talk about in this episode. Heady stuff, no doubt. But, it is important to take heed of the warning signs out there that would affect you, the casual user of the internet. A bit of a rant but there are things that need to be said.

By the way, if what I say here upsets you, the beauty of the internet allows you to say so in the comments below. Or not. That is your call. Imagine the freedom of speech for everyone in the world. That is what the internet is about and is the subject of this episode.

Next week: My friend Abigail Noel joins me in a walk through Elmwood Cemetery. She is a psychic channel and evidentiary medium. We talk about dealing with dead people (and the living) and her involvement in the Lorenzen Wright and Holly Bobo cases. A really fascinating walk and talk with a fascinating and very funny lady. For more on her check out her website here.

Until then,
