Merry Sort of Christmas & Wendy Stuart

As Christmas bears down on us all, this year seems rather muted. Some people are trying to find any joy during the end of this tumultuous year. There is some hope out there and it's just going to be a matter of all of us hunkering down and getting through this together in a sort of distant matter.

Along those lines, Ric sits down with model and entertainer Wendy Stuart who will bring some cheer to your eggnog , if you know what we're saying. Wendy was a fixture at Studio 54 and other influential New York Clubs as well as her modelling work and a book she has written about her experiences.

If that wasn't enough, she created a cooking show to keep herself busy through the pandemic. Not bad for a Covid-19 survivor. A story you will hear in this episode.

NEXT WEEK: The Exciting Conclusion of 2020 & Ian Guerin

Happy Holidays

It's that time of the year again when Ric takes an amusing look at the ongoing "War on Xmas". This time out, Ric gets into how it all started, who is firing the "shots" and where is this all headed. Plus, a little holiday cheer and a little advice.

Also in this episode, there came an idea for a Christmas card that should be made. It should have a nice serene image, in watercolor, with some outstanding words reflective of the holiday season. If that weren't enough, Ric will tell you about a very special show on Radio Memphis happening tonight.

NEXT WEEK: Wrapping up 2019... sort of.

The Post Holiday Blues

It's that time again when we come out of the holiday rush into what many would call the dark times before spring. Although as of this writing, it's like 70 degrees outside. Anyway, a couple of weeks back, we were in the throws of the impending Christmas holiday. On the air, the return of Tlaxica but this time she brought along her musical partner, Pope. Stories were told and music was played. It was big.

Then a little later on, a dear friend of Radio Memphis, Zeke Johnson came in to talk about the holiday and play a little music related to the day. He also tells one of the most remarkable Christmas stories you will ever hear with every word being true.

NEXT WEEK: Fresh from Europe, Low Society.

The Annual Christmas War and John Nemeth

For me at least, the best part of Christmas is it being over. Can't say I am a big fan of this holiday. It tends to bring out the absolute worst in people and it has lost all of what the holiday was about. I just hunker down and wait for all of this to blow over. But enough of all that.

In this episode, Jeff and I sat down with John Nemeth and talked about his current collection of songs from the Feeling Freaky CD. We had a great time in the studio with lots of laughs and a great performance with his band.

It's a Comcast Christmas

This is the last show of 2016. Sounds ominous, I know. Just getting this episode in the can has been a pain in the ass. Not that I would expect any listener of this show to care so much about that issue.

It's no big deal, really. Especially when you put things into the real perspectives of how difficult things can be for others. We never really know what others are going through. People, for the most part, tend to hide their issues from others. It's a sense of pride, really.

Having said that, I will say this... "The show must go on".

Plus music from Special Shoes.

From The Trenches of the Great Xmas War

How is it that people who call the "war on Christmas" an actual war are always those who feel they are being marginalized? Seriously. Is there an actual movement to suppress those who say "Merry Christmas"? It's laughable. Seriously. Look at what you people are arguing about.

I have been chastised for saying "Happy Holidays". What the fuck, man?

What I seem to be being chastised for is for being open to the idea there are actually people out there who don't celebrate Christmas. You know, like those who celebrate Hanukkah. God forbid I recognize those who don't share the same customs as I or my family have. It's called acceptance.

Therein lies the problem. There are a lot of people out there who just won't accept ANYTHING from anyone unless it agrees with them, 100% of the time. Sad.

Also in this episode, music from The Fast Mothers.

Hair Trigger Universe

I went to Lowe's and got more than I bargained for and not in a good way. Those of you who have been fans of this show understand how I feel about society. People are funny for sure, but they are also kind of scary to be around in large groups.

It seems to get worse around the holiday season as these people tend to get worse than normal.

Plus music from Surviving Allison.

Being Unreasonable

Since the beginning of the show From Radioland, I have found myself in what appears to be a unique situation. The observation of society in the dominion of assholes. They are everywhere and for some strange reason, the end of the year is their time to shine.

Observing is one thing, but there may be a side effect of it all. The concept of being a product of our environment becomes rather scary if our environment is filled with assholes.

Patience is indeed a virtue, my friends.

Declaring War on X-mas

To me, there are few things more interesting than watching people lose their collective shit over something insanely stupid. In this case, this whole coffee cup fiasco. Yes, I know it has worn pretty thin by now however, I wanted to take a look at this from the perspective of those who are completely out of their minds.

I also know there are those out there who think this is nothing more than a diversionary tactic to devote our attention away from something else. First, let me just tell you that despite what some people would have you believe, I am capable of pondering more than one thought at a time. Secondly, this whole "war on Christmas" thing is something I personally find highly amusing.

NEXT WEEK: Toni Green

A couple of little notes here about the show. The upcoming episode (next week) is a little peek at what the new format of the show is working toward. We hope you like it.

Our guest next week is a resident of France. Toni Green is from Memphis and has relocated to a little town just north of Paris. Since the recent horrific incidents having occurred there, I am filled with sorrow, anger and a lot of hope for the people living there. It is our hope and prayer that Ms. Green was not personally affected by those events.

Happy Holidays, Damnit

Yes, it is that time of the year yet again when a good chunk of the world is celebrating Christmas is whatever iteration it may be. Some of us could give two shits for this holiday. But there are those who really go all out. I wanted to share with you a little of what it was like for me as a child and now what it is like as an adult. Especially since I have no children.

But there are these things called office parties. Which can be fun. If you are somewhat sober. Which begs the question, should you even get bombed around the boss? Or should you wait and do that in front of your spouse's boss? Oh how much fun it would be...
